Bruce Ewert, Winemaker Owner, has 24 years experience in winemaking managerial and hands-on roles at a variety of small and large wineries in British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, California and Australia. This makes Bruce the most experienced winemaker in Nova Scotia and is among a handful of specialized sparkling winemakers in Canada. A previously awarded winemaker at some of BC’s leading sparkling wine wineries, he was born in BC and has a degree in Bio-Resource (Agriculture) Engineering from University of British Columbia and has studied winemaking at University of California, Davis.
Bruce and his Nova Scotia born wife Pauline moved their young family to Nova Scotia in 2004 and founded L’Acadie Vineyards in the Gaspereau Valley. This sub-valley to the Annapolis Valley has ridges that retain heat and ocean breezes that moderate temperatures and provide heat units and frost free days to ripen cool climate grapes with a natural balance of sugar and acidity ideal for Traditional Method Sparkling wine. Bruce identified that the region had great potential for sparkling wine and L’Acadie Vineyards was the first to release this style, a trend that will be followed by other NS wineries. Initial awards and accolades nationally and internationally for his sparklings have proven his passion. We believe that Nova Scotia’s unique cool climate wine region will be well known in the world for this authentic style and L’Acadie Vineyards Brut and Rose, the first Traditional Method sparkling wines to be released in Nova Scotia, are already benchmarking well nationally and internationally. L’Acadie Vineyards was also the first to release wines made from dried grapes, a new style of red winemaking for Nova Scotia. The sloped rocky well-drained mineral soil of L’Acadie Vineyards has been certified organic from the beginning, another first in Nova Scotia, and their estate wines are certified organic. |
